WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S.A. – Dominican Republic native and merengue megastar Juan Luis Guerra, Spanish crooner Alejandro Sanz, Oscar-winning Uruguayan troubadour Jorge Drexler and Mexican composer Mario Domm of power ballad trio Camila lead the nominations for the 11th Latin Grammys with four apiece.

The awards will be presented Nov. 11 in Las Vegas.

Drexler’s “Una canción me trajo hasta aquí,” Sanz’s “Desde cuando” and Camila’s “Mientes” compete against Brazilian tropicalismo legend Maria Bethânia’s “Tua” and Spanish diva Concha Buika's “Se me hizo fácil” for the Record of the Year.

In the album of the year category, Spanish balladeer Bebe’s “Y” competes against her fellow countryman Miguel Bosé’s “Cardio.” Camila’s “Dejarte de amar,” Juan Luis Guerra’s “A son de Guerra” and Alejandro Sanz’s “Paraíso Express.”

“We are very happy and feel privileged that we have been nominated in four categories,” said Domm, according to the Mexican daily Excélsior.

For Song of the Year, Domm and his band Camila’s “Mientes” will compete against Drexler, Sanz, salsa icon Rubén Blades for “Las Calles” and the duet between Enrique Iglesias and Juan Luis Guerra “Cuando me enamoro.”

Gustavo Cerati earns two nominations

Ailing Argentine rock legend Gustavo Cerati, who is in a coma after suffering an aneurysm while on tour in Venezuela, received two nominations: Best Rock Album for “Fuerza Natural” and Best Rock Song for “Déjà Vu.”

Dominican Latin music pioneer and former Santo Domingo Mayor Johnny Ventura scored a nomination for Best Tropical Contemporary album for his Christmas collection “Volvió la Navidad.” Also in the category are Venezuelan Latin combo Tecupae for “Tiempo,” Cuban diva Lucrecia for “Album de Cuba,” Juan Luis Guerra for “A son de Guerra” and New York City’s bachata artist Prince Royce for his namesake album.

“I am surprised by the nomination because I am an artist whose career is just beginning,” Royce said to the Los Angeles daily La Opinión. “This is great for me.”

For Best Brazilian Song, the nominees are: “Ha de ser” by Jorge Vercillo, “Litoral e Interior” by Sergio Santos, “Quebra-Mar” by Dori Caymmi, “Tantas Mares” by Edu Lobo and “Tua” by Maria Bethânia.
