LIMA, Peru – Authorities have found 21 bodies from a boat that sank in the Amazon River, but confirmed 161 survived the disaster, an official said. Julio López Velásquez, the emergency services secretary in the region of Loreto, said the exact number of missing passengers is unclear. But he said his officials forecast “between 15 and 20 bodies” are trapped beneath the stern of the boat and the team is continuing its search for corpses, noting some may have been swept away by the river’s strong currents. The boat, named “The Camila,” had been transporting more than 200 when it sank at about 2:40 a.m. on May 26 near the village of Santa Rosa, about 31 miles from Iquitos, the capital of Loreto.
