Former President Arnoldo Alemán to run again in Nicaragua

MANAGUA, Nicaragua – Former President Arnoldo Alemán has accepted the Liberal Constitutionalist Party (PLC) nomination to run for Nicaraguan presidency in 2011. The nomination of Alemán, who held the position from 1997 to 2002, occurred just two days after he was acquitted of money laundering charges in Panama. Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega said he plans to seek reelection, and Eduardo Montealegre, who lost to Ortega in 2006, is contemplating making another run at the country’s top job.
