MEXICO CITY — Retired General Ricardo Escorcia Vargas was detained May 17 in connection with an ongoing investigation over alleged ties between members of the Mexican military and drug cartels, according to the country’s Attorney General’s Office.
Two other generals, Tomás Ángeles Dauahare and Roberto Dawe González, were detained May 15, also in connection with the investigation, the Attorney General Office’s said.
Prosecutors questioned Escorcia, who retired from the military in April of 2010, after his detention.
Local media reports said the probe is focusing on alleged links between the army and the Beltrán Leyva cartel.
