Oldham players threaten strike action over unpaid wages

Oldham Athletic’s players have threatened to strike over unpaid wages.

Players at the League Two club refused to head out to the training pitch on Thursday morning after promises to pay them for September failed to materialise.

They were eventually persuaded to go to the gym and take part in a workout instead.

Dubai-based Moroccan Abdallah Lemsagam completed his protracted takeover of Oldham in Janaury.

They were relegated last season despite an influx of new arrivals, many from abroad.

This summer, a drastic cost-cutting programme saw a number of players and staff depart the club.

Following Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw at Mansfield, Oldham lie in eighth place after drawing their last three matches.

Wages should have been paid on Friday of last week.

Oldham declined to comment.
