Tyson Fury has claimed that Anthony Joshua is ‘frightened’ to take him on after posting a video on Instagram.
Fury posted the video on Thursday afternoon, claiming that ‘Matchroom, Eddie Hearn and [Anthony] Joshua are frightened to death of me’.
His comments came after Joshua dismissed the suggestion that he needs to put in a convincing performance against Alexander Povetkin at Wembley next Saturday to be recognised as a boxer who has earned his stripes.
‘I am the No 1 in the division, I ain’t got to show anything,’ said Joshua. It promoted a response from Fury, who went on the offensive on Thursday.
He also suggested that he knows why Joshua is ‘frightened’ of him.
He said: ‘I’ve had a brainstorm people. Here’s how I know that Matchroom, Eddie Hearn and [Anthony] Joshua are frightened to death of the Gypsy King and want no part of me.
‘Here’s the reason, this fight with me and [Deontay] Wilder has been announced and talked about, contracts have been sorted whatever.
‘All the negotiation period we have had no contact from Matchroom or Joshua or Eddie Hearn about making this fight at all about me and Joshua for April. So it just shows you that if they thought Wilder was going to beat me, why wouldn’t they take this fight for April and they take the Gypsy King lineal champion scalp because they don’t fancy it that’s why.’
He added: ‘They do not fancy it. You’re looking at the Dom Perignon of heavyweight boxing boys! Get used to it, cos the Mac is back.’
