The anonymous woman was unconscious and recovering from a C-section when her in-law decided to stick her claws in.

And the mum only discovered the truth two months after the birth of her child.

Writing to Slate.com, the American woman revealed how her husband claimed his mum had “guilt-tripped” him into the idea.

She said: “Apparently his mother guilt-tripped him into doing this while I was asleep after my emergency C-section.”

The mum continued: “She tried to convince him to give our son a first name that I very much hated, saying that would ‘get mad, but get over it’.”

Her mother-in-law lives in a different state a few hours away, so the entire conservation took place over the phone, but the husband insisted changing her son’s name was “too much”.

But he did give into changing the boy’s middle name from Finley to Finlay, which his mum thought sounded “more masculine”, despite agreeing on the other spelling with his wife before she went into labour.

Then the woman’s husband was too “afraid” to tell her what had happened.

She said: “He just let me keep believing for two months that our son’s middle name was spelled Finley when it legally isn’t.”

The mum only discovered his lie when their son was two-months-old and she was filing his birth certificate away.

She added: “His mother has always been a manipulator and I have always known she doesn’t like me.

“But she blatantly disrespected me and the name my husband and I had chosen for our son.”
