Ireland U-21 cap Rory Hale hopes Derry can give their season a lift by landing the EA Sports Cup on home soil tomorrow.
Cobh Ramblers make the long trek north to play Derry in the final (4.0pm, live on eir Sport) but it’s been a trying spell for a chunk of the squad.
Derry lost all three league games in August while the international stage was a disappointment for siblings Rory and Ronan Hale, both Derry players, as they were unused subs for Ireland’s U-21 side in their 6-0 loss to Germany in midweek.
“I can’t wait for it,” said Rory Hale.
“I’ve been buzzing for it all week even though I haven’t been playing here or training as much as I would’ve liked ahead of the final.
“It’s been a tough two weeks but I’ve been talking to Ronan all week about the final and just can’t wait.
“It’s my first professional final. There are bus-loads coming from Belfast, from youth clubs, about 20 mates and my whole family is coming so hopefully it’s a good day for everyone and hopefully it’s a packed-out Brandywell. I can’t wait to get out there.”
