Jameela Jamil’s recent comment about Khloé Kardashian has generated a lot of interest online, with some media outlets suggesting that the British actress slammed the “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star. The actress has now clarified the comment and said that she was actually slamming the media for “fat shaming” people.
The controversy began after Jamil commented on a joke by Kardashian on Twitter. The joke stated that the two things girls want is to lose weight and eat more. Jamil shared the image on her Twitter page and said that she hopes her daughter grows up wanting more than these two things in life.
“Sending love to this poor woman. This industry did this to her. The media did it to her. They fat shamed her into a prison of self critique. Dear girls, WANT MORE THAN THIS,” Jamil wrote at that time.
After some media outlets talked about how Jamil commented on the Kardasian post, the former attempted to set the record straight in another tweet. The actress explained that the reports about her slamming or hitting out at the “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” are simply not accurate.
“You’re trying to make a woman of colour look violent and aggressive when I could not have been more empathetic,” Jamil wrote about the false reports. She added that she was actually criticizing the media for fat shaming people.
In another interview with Variety, a video of which has been posted on Twitter, Jamil said that she doesn’t dislike the Kardashian. “I like the Kardashians. I think they all seem like very nice, intelligent business women,” Jamil said. She explained that in her post she condemned the media and not the reality TV star.
Jamil feels that the reason why Kardashian posts the kind of content she posts online is because the media has “fat shamed” her so much that she is now forced to do it. She explained that the media falsely made it look like it was Jamil criticizing Kardashian because that would deflect attention of the people from the real issue of the press fat shaming the celebrity.
On the question of how Jamil deals with increased media scrutiny on anything she does or posts online, thanks to her increased fame, the actress said that she’s on the right side. She said that she is fighting for the mental health of young people, which she feels is never the wrong side to be on. She also pointed out that she has support of the people and sections of the media, which makes her feel “unscathed” by the recent controversy.
