Jackie ‘O’ Henderson announced her separation from her husband Lee on Friday, after 18 years together and 15 years of marriage.
And on Friday, her KIIS FM co-host Kyle Sandilands told Daily Mail Australia how shocked and saddened he is by the news.
Speaking at Stepping Stone House’s Sleep Under the Stars event, the 47-year-old said that Jackie and Lee were ‘the perfect couple.’
‘You’d look at them and be envious. You know, “they’re the perfect couple,” Kyle said.
He added: ‘I don’t know a lot about it, I just want to be there for my friend. I was really sad when I heard about it.’
Kyle said that Jackie assured him that she and Lee are in a ‘better place’ after their split.
‘You’re sad for your friends but she assures me that they’re both in a better place now, and they’re both better friends then they were together.’
‘I just wanted her to know I am there for her as a friend, I have known her for 20 years for god’s sake. I hope she is happy, I hope the whole family is happy.’
He said their primary concern was their daughter Kitty, seven.
‘[The focus on Kitty] is great, because I came from a broken home and I didn’t know what was going on. There were lots of secrets – and they have been so open and honest and lovely,’ Kyle said.
‘It’s crazy how good they have both handled it.’
On The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Friday, Kyle revealed he broke down in tears when he heard about the split.
‘I cried yesterday, didn’t I? I didn’t mean to upset you,’ he said to Jackie, adding that he had known about the separation ‘for a while’.
Jackie meanwhile addressed the split on air, saying: ‘It’s not a decision we took lightly at all.’
‘We have been so lucky that our separation has been extremely amicable. And I know everyone says that, but we actually have remained really good friends throughout all this.’
Jackie added that they still ‘talk everyday on the phone’ and ‘hang out as a family’ with their seven-year-old daughter Kitty, who is coping well amid the separation.
She explained the break-up ‘didn’t happen overnight’ for the couple, who tied the knot in 2003, and that they have been separated ‘for quite some time now’.
The media personality said that it was a ‘miracle’ they were able to keep the news a secret, adding that they wanted it to stay private ‘for as long as [they]possibly could’.
Jackie and Lee married in 2003, after meeting at a bar when Lee was backpacking around Australia.
After tying the knot the pair welcomed their daughter Kitty in 2010.
Jackie and Lee confirmed their split on Friday, after 18 years together.
In a statement, the radio announcer told Daily Mail Australia their ‘focus’ going forward is on their daughter Kitty.
‘After 18 years together, we have made the decision to separate. We do so amicably, sharing many incredible memories and remaining best friends,’ she said.
‘Our focus for this next chapter is of course our wonderful daughter and continuing to provide her love and happiness, together.’
The Daily Telegraph reported overnight that the pair split ‘some time ago’ and noted that the mother-of-one skipped the ACRAs last weekend due to ‘family reasons’.
