Fans and royal watchers everywhere are itching to learn if Meghan Markle could be getting pregnant soon, but they may have to wait a little bit longer, as there’s a good reason why the Duchess of Sussex may be choosing to delay having a baby.
Due to guidelines from the National Health Services, Markle, 37, may be choosing to delay a pregnancy due to her extensive travel schedule in the first few months of her marriage to Prince Harry. The pair embarks on their first royal tour in October, which will see them visiting Australia, Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga and New Zealand. While the NHS does not prohibit travel during pregnancy, it does caution expecting mothers to be cautious, as the first 12 weeks are usually marked by nausea and overwhelming exhaustion, which can complicate plans.
In addition, there is a higher risk of miscarriage in the first three months of pregnancy, and traveling longer than four hours can also carry risks of small blood clots or deep vein thrombosis.
While Markle may not be opting to delay pregnancy at all, with the extensive schedule in mind, she could be opting to put it off for the time being. If she and Prince Harry do not announce a pregnancy within their first year of marriage, they would be following in the footsteps of his older brother, Prince William, and Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge. The pair wed in April 2011 but didn’t announce their first pregnancy until December of 2012. They welcomed Prince George in July 2013.
Of course, whenever the couple chooses to have a child is up to them, and should Markle get pregnant, they will announce when they feel the time is right. That still hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from continually cranking out stories that she is already with child, however, with several reports claiming she was expecting twins barely a month after her wedding.
Those reports continue to surface, with Gossip Cop recently refuting a new story in OK!, which claimed that the couple, whom Queen Elizabeth II recently gifted Adelaide Cottage, was remodeling the property to include “two nurseries,” and that it had led to gossip that they were already expecting.
“Given that they’re rushing to make room for a baby, palace insiders are whispering that they could be expecting already,” a source allegedly told the tabloid. “Harry and Meghan are designing the nurseries together.”
