Prince Harry warned Meghan Markle just before they made their relationship public.
Katie Harris, a journalist for Express, reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex went under the radar for four months after their first meeting and before the publication reported that they were a couple in October 2016.
At that time, Prince Harry was staying with Markle in Toronto since she was still filming for “Suits.” In Andrew Morton’s book “Meghan: A Hollywood Princess,” the author revealed how the prince’s secretary called him urgently to inform him that their relationship has been leaked.
Prince Harry didn’t seem to mind the outing, and he and his then-girlfriend even toasted each other with a glass of wine. But this still didn’t stop the duke from warning the former actress.
“When the story became public, Harry was staying with Meghan in Toronto. After he took a call from Jason Knauf to tell him their cover had been blown, he and Meghan poured themselves a glass of wine and toasted each other. But the celebration came with a sober warning, Harry telling Meghan, ‘Our lives will never be the same again,’” Morton wrote.
After reports swirled that Prince Harry was dating Markle, the former USA Network star became an overnight sensation.
“Overnight Meghan Markle went from being a moderately well-known actress to one of the most famous people on the planet,” he said.
One month later, Prince Harry confirmed that he was dating Markle after the latter was subjected to mindless bashing regarding her race and ethnicity. Markle was born from an African-American mom and an American father.
“The past week has seen a line crossed. His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm,” Prince Harry’ statement read.
One year later, Prince Harry and Markle got engaged, and the royal couple tied the knot on May 19.
