Tamar Braxton claims life coach Iyanla Vanzant ‘sex shamed’ her

Tamar Braxton came out swinging on Thursday, accusing life coach Iyanla Vanzant of sex shaming her after she revealed she was the victim of repeated sexual abuse as a child during a family therapy session.

The 41-year-old’s heartbreaking revelation aired on Thursday during a taped segment on The Wendy Williams show which was filmed the day before.

The singer’s interview with the famed talk show host was emotional from the jump, however Braxton shocked Wendy and her audience when she made the harrowing admission about her childhood.

‘A lot of things happened in my childhood that I was, like, too afraid to talk about or too ashamed to talk about,’ Tamar revealed to Wendy. ‘I’ve been battling myself on whether or not I want to say really what happened or not because everybody wants you to be political.’

‘Say it,’ Wendy implored, not seeming to understand the bombshell the reality star was about to drop.

Tamar continued: ‘But the truth of the matter is that, you know, I have been molested. You know, by both sides of my family.’

The reality star didn’t accuse any specific family members of molesting her.

The admission came after the 54-year-old host asked the WE Tv star about recent reports that she stormed out of a taping with her sisters while getting help from Vanzant.

Reports that the Braxton Family Values star now debunked as false, erroneously claimed that Tamar walked out over a family argument and that her sister, Toni Braxton, was angry.

‘No she wasn’t, no she wasn’t,’ Tamar clarified about Toni to Wendy.

According to the reality star, she walked out of the session with Iyanla because of her ‘her tactic and the way she goes about things.’

Tamar accused the spiritual teacher of being, ‘a little too abrasive and a little bit too much.’

She said Vanzant’s alleged behavior ‘was uncalled for.’

The songbird told the host that her reported storm-out was ‘not a typical Tamar meltdown and walk out situation.’

She added: ‘[It’s] nothing I’ve ever talked about. And, I never thought that I would sit around a table with Iyanla – who’s here to talk about, you know, me and my sisters and our problems – and to bring that up and sex shame me – basically, in front of everybody.

‘So, that’s why I got up and walked out.’

The R&B singer didn’t get into specifics about how Iyanla allegedly sex shamed her.

DailyMail.com has reached out to Iyanla for comment.

Williams could only manage a stunned, ‘oh,’ in response to the sad details and quickly changed the subject.

News of Tamar’s abuse surfaced following the taping on Wednesday when sources told TMZ about the reality star’s confession.

Though, at the time the details about Tamar blaming Iyanla had not been revealed.

Prior to the allegations surfacing, Tamar’s sister Traci sat down with TooFab and, in a video that was published today but shot last week, called the session with Iyanla a ‘good experience.’

‘We sat with Iyanla and it was a good experience,’ Traci said. ‘It opened up a lot of our eyes to a lot of things that were going on and how we should keep business business and family family.’

After the episode aired on The Wendy Williams Show, the Tamar took to social media to expand on the story.

She wrote: ‘Today Wendy asked me what happened at my sisters meeting and why did I walk out. Since someone there decided that they would ask me about something so private, so embarrassing, so secretive in front of EVERYONE that was there, I felt like my life was flashing before my eyes and IMMEDIATELY started to cry.’

Adding: ‘Not because someone decided to allow someone else to tell MY SECRET, not because I was asked if it were True in front of a hundred strangers, but because once again my right to choose was taken from me all over again. I decided to Tell Wendy and the world MY secret, MYSELF that I have been a victim of abuse not once, twice, ten, but multiple times by multiple ‘family members”

On social media, Tamar explained that she’d only ever spoken about the abuse with two people and one of which is her current boyfriend of three months.

Tamar went on to explain why she chose to finally open up about the molestation after the incident with Vanzant allegedly went down.

‘I felt that because this has happened to me recently, that something HAD to be done about people who DID know and tried to make People embarrassed and ashamed about something that has happened to them!!!’

‘I never EVER again want anyone to feel so little and so small or even ashamed about something they had no control over.’

‘I wanted to create a space where you can tell your OWN story with out anyone commenting or making you feel ashamed EVER again!!’

Aside from the harrowing details about her past, the whole segment with Wendy was emotional.

The women have known each other for a decade and Tamar is a frequent guest on the award-winning talk show.

Wendy got choked up early on in the conversation when she was leading into questions about Braxton’s failed marriage to her producer ex-husband Vince Herbert.

Before asking about rumors of infidelity in the marriage which ended in 2017 after nine years, Wendy prefaced, ‘this is weird, thank you for letting me ask though.’

Tamar shot down allegations that her ex-husband had a love child and said that she felt like she was ‘having a mental breakdown’ on social media recently when she ranted about the rumor.

It isn’t all sad news for the star, she revealed on the show that she’s ‘very much’ in love with her new boyfriend.

Tamar described the Harvard Business School alum as ‘so fine’ that he’s like ‘a whole snack … a Lunchable.’

The reality star also revealed that she’s working on her business relationship with her family.

Braxton Family Values reportedly went on hiatus over the summer after sisters Toni, Tamar, Towanda, Traci, Trina and their mother Evelyn demanded a pay raise and an increase in wardrobe and travel stipends.

The family was apparently back to filming for the finale of the season when they decided to sit down with Iyanla.

The Braxtons, who are reportedly under contract through season nine, have yet to corroborate or comment on Tamar’s explosive allegations.

Season six of Braxton Family Values is currently airing season six on WE tv.
