Mayor and former mayor of Morales, Colombia arrested for alleged roles in judge’s murder

BOGOTÁ, Colombia – Colombian police arrested Marcelo Rincones Díaz, the mayor of the city of Morales, and its former mayor, Loher Díaz Díaz, for their alleged involvement in the 2002 murder of judge Roberto David Carballo Herrera. Last year, Dámaso Bermúdez Ramírez and three men were sentenced to prison for the murder, but officials have discovered evidence alleging their crimes were financed by the local government. The terrorist organization, known as the Bloque Central de las Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia (AUC), is notorious for murder, extortion and kidnapping.
