LIMA, Peru – Former Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo continues to be the favorite for the upcoming presidential election, despite a recent drop in the polls, according to a new survey published on March 20.

An Ipsos-Apoyo poll showed Toledo would receive 23% of the vote. Keiko Fujimori, the daughter of former President Alberto Fujimori, is second with 19%, followed by former army officer Ollanta Humala at 17%, according to results published in Peru’s El Comercio newspaper. The vote is scheduled for April 10. If no candidate wins the majority vote, a run-off election will be held in June.

Lima’s former Mayor Luis Castañeda and Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, a member of Toledo’s cabinet, were tied at 14%.

The poll had a margin of error of 2.2%.
