England made a winning start to the Netball Quad Series with a 54-41 victory over New Zealand at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.
Tracey Neville’s side led by just a single point after both the first and second quarters, but pulled away in the third by outscoring their opponents 15-6.
‘They came out and really challenged us and to be honest exposed some weaknesses in parts of that game,’ Neville told Sky Sports.
‘We talked about being more clinical, we were a little hesitant in that second quarter and we’re not going to get away with that against South Africa.’
Earlier in the day, defending champions Australia, who are seeking to win the competition for the fifth time in six attempts, opened their campaign with a 62-45 win over South Africa.
