Gearbox Software had a new announcement to make today regarding its series, but it isn’t about . For the first time in an official manner, will be playable in virtual reality starting later this year, with the new title coming exclusively to PlayStation VR.
will offer the same Pandora-set storyline of the base game, insane gun variants, and overall experience as the regular edition, however, there are some changes. Perhaps the biggest one of them all is the removal of cooperative play, with the VR title being changed into a single-player adventure. Several powers of the playable characters have been altered to accommodate not having co-op partners as well.
Meanwhile, a new addition that VR players will be able to use is BAMF Time, short for “BadAss Mega Fun Time.” This is essentially Gearbox’s take on bullet-time, where players can slow down the action to use their powers, dodge bullets, and have more time to react to enemy attacks.
Being a VR title, driving has been moved to the first person perspective as well, where the steering and speed are managed by the PlayStation Move motion controllers, but the weapon turret is tied to where the headset is pointed at.
has a December 14 release date attached to it and is now available to pre-order from the Store for $49.99. For VR headset owners on the PC side who may be let down by the PlayStation exclusivity, there is some good news. In reply to a tweet inquiring about the platforms, the official Twitter account said that the title will be “launching as a PSVR exclusive,” meaning a PC launch could be a possibility later down the line.
