Fitbit just released a new fitness tracker. It’s the company’s cheapest, but users won’t be able to get it in stores.
The new Fitbit Inspire, a basic health-tracking device, is now available, but only through employers and health insurance providers who’ll opt to avail the device in bulk.
Fitbit’s latest health tracker is only offered to organizations that want to monitor employees’ health. This means that individual users can’t buy it in stores or through Fitbit’s website, as it should be issued to them by their employers or insurance companies.
Fitbit Inspire has the core elements of a health tracker — calorie monitor, sleep and activity tracker, phone alerts, and a move reminder for when a user has stayed sedentary for a bit too long. As with most fitness trackers, Inspire is swimproof and can be submerged in 50 meters of water. The device’s juice can last for up to five days as well.
Inspire has a fancier version, though. Called Inspire HR, the device has all the features from the basic Inspire, but it comes with a heart rate tracker that works 24/7. It also has different exercise modes, cardio fitness levels, and pace and distance monitoring that works with a phone’s GPS. Inspire HR can also monitor a user’s sleep stages — light, deep, and REM.
Fitbit Inspire is available in black and sangria colorways, while the Inspire HR comes in black, white, and lilac. Individual prices aren’t available, though. As these devices are targeted toward employers and insurance companies, pricing will vary from each deal.
With competition everywhere, James Park, Fitbit CEO, told CNBC that the company’s revenue has been relying more and more on business customers and large-scale deals. In fact, Fitbit currently has 6.8 million users, including health plan members, patients, and employees, who are signed up for wellness programs that use Fitbit fitness trackers.
