MSI’s Trident X is a compact gaming PC with Intel’s i9-9900K CPU and an Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti

At the beginning of the year, MSI unveiled a new iteration of its Trident desktop, featuring an Intel eighth-gen processor and Nvidia GTX 1080. If you were waiting to purchase that model, you’ll probably have noticed that a lot of time has passed and it has still yet to find its way to retail. While there isn’t a clear reason for this, it looks like MSI has probably scrapped that model in favor of its latest version, the Trident X.

The new model aims to offer a similar size when compared to previous models but does have some notable changes when it comes to the overall design. While the previous iteration had hard lines and cutouts, the new model looks much sleeker but still includes inputs and outputs on the front for convenience. Those that want something that looks a bit more elegant will have the option of swapping out the metal side panel for a glass one, without added cost. The glass panel will be mounted with a hinge, giving users easy access to the innards in order to upgrade the PC and provides a new way to show off the customizable LEDs.

When building something as compact as the Trident X, there is always the added concern of trying to keep things as cool as possible. MSI’s Silent Storm Cooling 3 breaks down each of the hot zones, the CPU, GPU, and PSU, and has inlets and outlets for each zone to keep them cool and efficient. This becomes more impressive when you learn that MSI has managed to integrate everything into the case, so you won’t have a clunky external adapter with this unit. As far as specifications, the unit can be configured with Intel’s just announced i9-9900K processor and Nvidia’s RTX 2080 Ti.

As far as high level specs and features are concerned, the MSI Trident X offers the following:

  • 9th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-9900K / i7-9700K processor
  • Windows 10 Home
  • GeForce RTX™ 2080 Ti / 2080 / 2070 graphics
  • 10 liters in size, the most compact gaming desktop
  • Silent Storm Cooling 3
  • Support 4K gaming experience
