The guesting of Norm MacDonald on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon will not push through because of his comments on recent issues.

The Canadian comedian garnered negative comments after he had stated remarks on the #MeToo movement, Roseanne Barr, and Louis C.K. who lost their shows because of racist comments and allegations of sexual abuse.

Controversies Surrounding Norm MacDonald

Via The Hollywood Reporter, MacDonald commented about women who have come forward about suffering sexual abuse from men who worked in the entertainment industry.

“Out of sensitivity to our audience and in light of Norm Macdonald’s comments in the press today, The Tonight Show has decided to cancel his appearance on Tuesday’s telecast,” stated NBC.

The network also added that the decision to cancel his appearance was final even after MacDonald had said sorry for his comments. In an interview, he stated that he was delighted that the viral #MeToo movement has withered down.

“It used to be, ‘One hundred women can’t be lying.’ And then it became, ‘One woman can’t lie.’ And that became, ‘I believe all women.’ And then you’re like, ‘What?’ Like, that Chris Hardwick guy I really thought got the blunt end of the stick there,” he said.

Only 10 hours after the interview had been posted, he apologized for it on Twitter by stating that he was intensely sorry. The comedian was supposedly set to appear on the show on Sept. 11.

Damage Control

According to him, he was confused during the interview in which he said his comments. He also appeared on The Howard Stern Show to do damage control and stated that what he was misunderstood. He considered himself as a dumb guy for saying the comments about the celebrities and movement.

The comedian added that people would have to have Down Syndrome to feel indifference toward the victims of sexual abuse. This further sparked controversy among people.

An organization named The Arc, who is focused on those who have developmental disabilities, said that MacDonald was ignorant for saying such a thing.

The group added that it is truly heartbreaking that they need to remind a celebrity to show respect for people who have disabilities, whether it may be developmental or intellectual. It added that the comedian mocked a group of people who understand victimization more than he does.

He was already having his hair and make-up done when Jimmy Fallon, the show’s host, told him about the news. MacDonald said that he does not have any news on whether or not his other TV appearances have been canceled as well.
