ARSENAL NEWS: Arsenal take on Liverpool this evening in a crunch Premier League clash.
The Gunners are back in action at the Emirates Stadium as they look to continue a 13-game unbeaten streak in all competitions – a run which has included 12 wins.
But this game will be the first time they have come up against a ‘big six’ rival since the back-to-back defeats against Manchester City and Chelsea at the start of the season.
Boss Unai Emery will be pleased that Hector Bellerin, Sead Kolasinac and Laurent Koscielny are all closing in on returns from injury and were pictured training yesterday.
Koscielny has been out since last season with a serious Achilles problem, while Kolasinac has a hamstring problem and Bellerin went off with a muscle injury against Crystal Palace last weekend.
Combined with the absences of Nacho Monreal (hamstring) and Konstantinos Mavropanos (groin) it means Emery has resorted to playing midfielder Granit Xhaka at left-back and gave forgotten man Carl Jenkinson and youngster Julio Pleguezuelo starts against Blackpool on Wednesday.
Arsenal are currently fourth in the table, four points behind league leaders Manchester City and opponents Liverpool.
A win at the Emirates today would see them overtake Chelsea for 24 hours at least – as the Blues take on Crystal Palace tomorrow afternoon.
Following the game against the Reds, Arsenal face two further home games – against Portuguese side Sporting and Wolves – before the international break.
