ARSENAL fan Piers Morgan has climbed aboard the Unai Emery bandwagon following the draw against Liverpool.
Former Paris Saint-Germain boss Emery took charge of the Gunners in May after Arsene Wenger brought down the curtain on his 22-year reign at the club.
The latter years of the Wenger era were marked by a failure to challenge for the Premier League title.
Arsenal held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium yesterday to take their unbeaten run to 14 games.
And Morgan, who repeatedly called on Wenger to go, took to social media to praise Emery for reviving the club’s fortunes.
He wrote on Twitter: “Strange feeling to wake up on a Sunday morning excited & happy to be an Arsenal fan again.
“Unbeaten in 14 games incl 12 wins & 36 goals…and it’s all down to this guy.
“I sat behind @UnaiEmery_ yesterday & he was a relentless whirlwind of energy, focus, encouragement & drive.”
Morgan also praised midfielder Lucas Torreira for adding bite to Arsenal’s previously soft centre.
Uruguay international Torreira arrived from Sampdoria for £26.5m in the summer and has quickly become a fans’ favourite.
Morgan wrote: “The new Arsenal spirit is perfectly personified by @LTorreira34 – a pint-sized warrior with fabulous touch. LOVE him.”
Liverpool took the lead against Arsenal thanks to James Milner’s 61st-minute strike.
The Gunners pushed for an equaliser and got a deserved leveller 10 minutes from time when Alexandre Lacazette found the back of the net.
Despite an impressive performance, Emery was not a happy man at the final whistle.
“For our result this point is not enough but Liverpool is a very good test and at the moment we are continuing to work and improve and we are nearer to this performance going forward,” he said.
“In 90 minutes there are a lot of moments to control the match. It is not a bad point but we need more.
“They can win the Premier League this season, they play the final of the Europa League three years ago and last season they were in the final of the Champions League – they are a very good example for us.”
