CHELSEA star Ross Barkley has his sights set on silverware this season following his side’s ‘fantastic’ win at Southampton.

The Blues moved to joint-top of the Premier League table yesterday after claiming a fine 3-0 victory away to Southampton.

Barkley, Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata were on the scoresheet for Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Barkley, who last week was recalled to Gareth Southgate’s England squad, bagged his maiden goal for Chelsea at St Mary’s and is now eager to kick on.

He said: “We are right in there. We have got the players who have achieved that success before, and we believe we are capable of doing that.

“Hopefully at the end of the season we will get trophies”

“We’re getting used to the way the manager wants us to play and we’ll continue to improve.

“We are taking each month as it comes, setting our targets, and hopefully at the end of the season we will get trophies.”

The 24-year-old, signed from Everton for £15m in January, added: “It was a fantastic result for us [at Southampton], and not only that, for me to get my first goal was fantastic.

“I feel like I have been at a high level for a couple of years, but it’s just about producing performances on game day.

“Last season I had a difficult time with injuries, but on the training pitch I have felt strong and confident and I have built on that.

“As the season goes on I am sure I’ll continue to improve and show people what I am capable of.”

Sarri believes Barkley can become a key player for club and country over the coming years following his impressive display on the south coast.

The Blues boss said: “Today he played really well. I am really happy with him because from the beginning he has improved, day by day, week by week, match by match.

“Potentially, he is a great player because he has quality, very important qualities from the physical point of view, from the technical point of view, now he’s improving from the tactical point of view.

“I think he will become very important in England and for the England national team.”

Barkley’s goal and assist against Southampton completed a memorable few days for the midfielder.

He is set to make his England return in their upcoming UEFA National League games against Croatia and Spain over this weekend.

The 24-year-old linked well with Jorginho and Hazard against the Saints as the Blues completed their ninth win in 11 games in all competitions this season.

Hazard said: ”Ross is playing well. He scored and made an assist. He is doing well and working hard on the training ground.”
