At her heaviest, Hayley James struggled with hip pains and swollen ankles when she tipped the scales at 13st 1lb.

The 43-year-old, from Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, felt that different methods of weight loss left her feeling unhappy and restricted.

Then after being mistaken for a pregnant woman, Hayley decided it was time to transform her life.

Since the awkward blunder, the national account correspondent for Hi-Tec Europe Ltd has dropped more than 3st with the help of Slimming World.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Online, Hayley has opened up about her incredible transformation.

“I felt sluggish and had various aches in my hips/legs”

She said: “After always being a size 12 I was finding clothes in a size 16 were now getting tight.

“I thought there was no way I wanted to go up to the next size and it was time to do something about it once and for all.

“I felt sluggish and had various aches in my hips/legs that I’d never had before.

“I had tried slimming shakes in the past but couldn’t keep them going long term and always found I would put the weight back on very quickly.”

The mum-of-one joined her local Slimming World group after being recommended by a colleague.

Although she felt nervous at the start, Hayley admits the consultant and other members made her feel welcome and supported.

She followed the Slimming World Food Optimising eating plan, which required her to swap her convenience foods for healthy homemade meals.

After the first week, Hayley saw the pounds melt away and has since lost a total of 3st 3lbs.

“I didn’t need to cut anything out completely, some foods were in moderation – like chocolate and wine,” she told Daily Star Online.

“I could eat carbs too, I loved filling up on pastas and risottos.”

Hayley added: “I am feeling much more confident and have much more energy than before.

“I wore a bikini on holiday for the first time in years.”

Since her weight loss, the mum has increased her walking and enjoys running, as well as Pilates on occasion.

As well as this, Hayley – who now fits into a size UK 12 – has been able to take up swimming again.

“I have more energy to run around with my five-year-old boy,” Hayley added.

“Always remember the trigger that spurred you on to start your weight loss journey.”

She continued: “If you have had a bad day don’t stress and let it turn into a bad week. Start again the next day.”
