NEYMAR was fit for PSG’s win over Saint Etienne last night – but Thomas Tuchel stopped him from playing ahead of their showdown with Liverpool.
The Reds host the Ligue 1 title holders in a crunch Champions League encounter on Tuesday night (8pm).
PSG head to Anfield with an extra day to prepare and a fully rested Neymar in their armoury.
The Brazil superstar was left out of the matchday squad to play Saint Etienne, along with France forward Kylian Mbappe.
Off the back of the international break, Tuchel decided neither were worth risking after both playing primary roles for their respective countries in the past fortnight.
PSG cruised past Saint Etienne anyway, winning 4-0 at the Parc des Princes.
And Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will put out his strongest side for today’s Premier League game against title rivals Tottenham at Wembley (12.30pm).
After last night’s victory, Tuchel revealed: ”Neymar and I spoke on Thursday.
“I told him that he was not going to play and that he could not train. However, Neymar felt good and took part in the whole session.
“Neymar played 90 minutes on Wednesday with Brazil, so I did not want to take any risks”
“That night, he was unable to sleep. I asked Neymar at 10 GMT on Friday how he was, and his reply was ‘I do not know.’ When he told me that, it was an alarm in my head.
“Neymar played 90 minutes on Wednesday with Brazil, so I did not want to take any risks. Together, we decided that he would not play.”
Tuchel rejected the idea PSG’s Ligue 1 games are of any less significance than their Champions League ones.
But the German does recognise facing compatriot Klopp at Liverpool’s historic home will be a real challenge for his team.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager added: ”I know that many people view the Liverpool match as the most important.
“However, I say that whether we play in Nimes, or Guingamp, or at home to Saint-Etienne, every game is difficult.
“We know that Anfield is one of the toughest trips in Europe. Saint-Etienne was a good rehearsal.
“It was good for our confidence ahead of Tuesday’s match at Anfield against Liverpool. It will be a big test for us. We are confident, though.”
While Liverpool take on PSG, Red Star Belgrade host Napoli the same evening in Group C.
