PRINCESS Eugenie looked stunning as she walked down the aisle towards her now-husband Jack Brooksbank – but why didn’t she wear a veil?
Fans have been speculating for months about what Princess Eugenie would wear on her wedding day.
She looked absolutely stunning during the royal wedding in an open-back wedding dress and tiara encrusted with emeralds.
The dress was designed by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos, and features a neckline that folds around the shoulders.
But onlookers noticed she wasn’t wearing a veil as she walked down the aisle towards her new husband, Jack Brooksbank.
“In all my research on royalty, I’ve never come across anything that dictates what a royal bride should wear on her wedding day”
While some people opt to wear a veil to their wedding, it isn’t a strictly mandatory tradition for royal brides.
A Royal expert told express.co.uk: “In all my research on royalty, I’ve never come across anything that dictates what a royal bride should wear on her wedding day.
“I think veil adds to the tradition, fantasy and pageantry surrounding a big wedding, especially a royal one.”
Another reason to wear a veil is its symbolic significance – it references virginity and modesty, but a lot of brides now wear them for tradition.

But one of the reasons Eugenie chose not to wear a veil is very touching.
When the art director was a child she had surgery for her scoliosis, which left her a scar on her back.
She told This Morning before the wedding how important it was for her not to hide her surgical scars.

Princess Eugenie told host Eamonn Holmes: “I had an operation when I was 12 on my back, and you’ll see on Friday, but it’s a lovely way to honour the people who looked after me and a way of standing up for young people who also go through this.
“I think you can change the way beauty is, and you can show people your scars and I think it’s really special to stand up for that. So that’s one really important one.”
This may be one of the reasons she opted to wear a low-backed gown and no veil.

The brave Princess was diagnosed with scoliosis when she was 12, and had surgery to straighten her spine at the National Orthopaedic Hospital.
Meghan Markle chose to adhere to the tradition of wearing a veil when she wed Prince Harry back in May.
The former Suits star’s veil was a touching tribute to her new home, showcasing flowers from the 53 countries in Britain’s Commonwealth.
