This is the shocking moment an overtaking lorry appeared to send a car crashing into the central reservation when it suddenly swerved from the fast lane.
Kayleigh Needham was on her way to Alton Towers to celebrate her friend’s birthday when she claims her car was hit by the lorry.
The 21-year-old was with two friends when the white vehicle veered from the fast lane of the A50, just outside Derby, to the inside lane she was in.
She was travelling at around 60mph at the time and the lorry driver did not stop following the dramatic collision.
Footage from the scene captured the car as it span out of control after smashing into the central reservation of the dual carriageway.
The lorry allegedly hit the back of the car, causing it to hit the metal barriers, before spinning back towards the other side of the road.
Ms Needham, from Leicester, said: ‘I tried to steer my car over to the left to try prevent being squished between the safety barriers and lorry.
‘The lorry then caught the back of my car causing the car to crash into the opposite safety barriers then spinning back into the left hand lane.’
After the incident she said she was left shaking and ‘couldn’t believe that the lorry had done that to me’.
The car then began smoking, but Ms Needham acted quickly to get herself and her friends out of the vehicle as safely as possible.
‘We all suffered concussion and severe whiplash from the ordeal, also experiencing chronic back pains,’ she said.
Ms Needham said that the extent of the damage is extremely bad and she doesn’t think that the car will be able to be driven again.
All of this was caught on camera by a witness who pulled over and called the police.
Derbyshire Police confirmed that they were in attendance of the incident and said: ‘Enquiries are ongoing.’
