Colombia offers help in securing French reporter’s release

BOGOTÁ, Colombia — President Juan Manuel Santos said Colombia has assured the French government that his administration will do whatever it can to help to obtain the release of captive journalist Roméo Langlois.

“Through our foreign ministry, we informed the government of France of our readiness to facilitate in the liberation of journalist Roméo Langlois,” Santos tweeted on May 15.

Langlois, a 35-year-old French correspondent for the international television network France 24, was taken hostage on April 28 by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

He was taken prisoner during a battle with Colombian troops engaged in a counter-narcotics operation he was taping.
