The moniker is a surprise choice. Bookmakers’ favourites were Alexander, Arthur, Albert, as well as James and Philip.

According to Ladbrokes, only £100 was wagered in 60 bets on the name Archie, at odds of 100/1.

No title

It has been reported that the baby will not have a title and will be referred to as Master Archie.

There had been speculation the newborn might take on one of the titles given to the Duke of Sussex on his wedding day, Earl of Dumbarton. Another option was for him to be known as Lord Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.

A source said:  “They have chosen not to use a courtesy title.”

‘Two best guys in the world’

The announcement comes shortly after the trio took part in a photocall in St George’s Hall at Windsor Castle, in Windsor.

The couple were clearly elated with their new addition, with the Duchess declaring that she has “the two best guys in the world”.

Of motherhood, she said: “It’s magic, it’s pretty amazing.”

She described their son as being “calm” and having the “sweetest temperament”.

“I don’t know who he gets that from,” said the Duke, as the couple laughed.

Ms Markle added: “He’s just been the dream so it’s been a special couple of days.”

‘Parenting is amazing’

Asked who the baby takes after, she said: “We’re still trying to figure that out.”

Prince Harry said: “Everyone says that babies change so much over two weeks we’re basically monitoring how the changing process happens over this next month really. But his looks are changing every single day, so who knows.”

Asked how he found parenting, he added: “It’s great. Parenting is amazing. It’s only been two and a half days, three days, but we’re just so thrilled to have our own little bundle of joy.”

When asked to show more their son’s face, Prince Harry joked: “He’s already got a little bit of facial hair as well, wonderful.”

Ms Markle added: “Thank you everybody for all the well wishes and kindness, it just means so much.”

After the photocall the couple introduced their son to the Queen. Archie is her and the Duke of Edinburgh’s eighth great-grandchild.
