MANCHESTER UNITED assister Ander Herrera has been slammed after it appeared the Spaniard was offside as he set up Anthony Martial to equalise against Arsenal.
Anthony Martial cancelled out Shokdran Mustafi’s opener with a tap-in after Herrera laid it across the Arsenal box.
The Gunners centre-back had scored just four minutes prior after David de Gea parried the ball into his own net.
And just as they were looking for a way back into the match, United centre-back Marcos Rojo’s free-kick was parried by Bernd Leno – and Herrera, who was behind the Arsenal wall, picked up the pieces to lay off Martial.
But the controversial goal angered several Gunners fans, with even United fans admitting their side had gotten away with it.
“Arsenal fans FURIOUS at Man Utd goal”
“Marital dived and Herrera was offside come on VAR,” tweeted one angry fan.
While another fan also took to the platform to vent his frustration, tweeting: “Offside Herrera! Same old United.”
Another fan tweeted in a similar vein: “Looool we’ve been cheated again, herrera was offside as well as the dive from martial. Same old s**t.”
But one Gunners fan was more disappointed with his own side, tweeting: “Herrera is offside. but doesn’t excuse the poor set up after that.”
One United fan admitted his side had gotten away with it, saying: “Lucky goal for ManUtd. Herrera was off side.”
Sky Sports commentator and United legend Gary Neville even felt he thought it was marginally off.
He said live on air: “I think he’s just a centimetre off.”
To add the the visitors woes, Rob Holding was stretchered off with 10 minutes left of the first-half in a leg cast.
