Barcelona and PSG chasing Man Utd teen Angel Gomes after Solskjaer criticism

The attacking midfielder was tipped for a bright future at Old Trafford after making his debut aged just 16 years and 263 days.

Gomes’ progress has stalled since making his Red Devils bow against Crystal Palace in May 2017.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave the precocious talent a nine-minute run out in his first game in charge.

But Gomes has since only featured briefly against Huddersfield Cardiff, leading to interest from Barca and PSG.

The youngster has captained England at under-16, under-17 and under-18 levels.

“Gomes is still very small, but he sees the game seconds before others,” said Manchester United graduate Danny Webber.

“Angel is like Paul Scholes; he can dictate a game with his intelligence.”

Former United manager Jose Mourinho named Gomes in United’s pre-season tour squad of the USA last year.

News of Gomes’ European suitors comes amid:

  • Solskjaer’s top transfer target this summer being revealed
  • Starsport explaining why Man Utd could still qualify for the Champions League this season
  • Man Utd closing in on CHEAPER Jadon Sancho alternative as Borussia Dortmund block exit

And Solskjaer has already hinted that some United youngsters will figure in next season’s Europa League campaign.

Gomes, however was omitted from his list, leading fans to express concern over his future at the club.

“Sometimes you can use Europa League as something positive,” Solskjaer said earlier this month.

“As Chelsea and Arsenal have done this year and as we did a couple of years ago when we won the Europa League.

“So you talk about smiling, I’m an optimist by nature, so you will make the most of it, is it giving players like Chongy, Mason Greenwood, James Garner game time?

“We have to make something positive out of it, no matter what.”

According to the Manchester Evening News, Gomes had a loan move lined up in January.

But the Norwegian boss put his switch on ice under concerns of a potential avalanche of injuries.

ANGEL GOMES’ Manchester United future could be in the balance after the youngster emerged as a target for Barcelona and Paris St-Germain.
