Lake Macquarie man charged after stabbing man asleep in bed

A man has been charged after allegedly stabbing another man in the face and chest as he slept in his bed.

Police allege a 36-year-old man from Adamstown, forced his way into a property on Lowana Crescent,Windale just before 2am yesterday as the 49-year-old victim, a 37-year-old woman and three children – aged six, 13 and 16, were asleep.

The man, allegedly armed with a knife, entered the bedroom of the victim and allegedly attacked him before fleeing the scene.

A Windale man was allegedly stabbed in his sleep early on Friday morning.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District attended the location and a crime scene was established.

The victim was treated by paramedics, before being taken to John Hunter Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Following enquiries, investigating officers attended a property in Adamstown and arrested the 36-year-old man later that morning.

He was taken to Belmont Police Station and charged with cause wounding grievous bodily harm with intent to murder and contravene apprehended violence order.

He appeared at Newcastle Bail Court today and was refused bail.

He will next appear at Belmont Local Court on March 13.
