“Suicide Squad 2” hasn’t had the easiest time getting off the ground. From Warner Bros. going through a few directors before landing on James Gunn to the news that Idris Elba in talks to replace Will Smith as Deadshot. But, after a long road, it looks like things are finally coming together.

Collider has revealed the rumored new characters joining the team in “Suicide Squad 2,” which is now being referred to as “The Suicide Squad,” and it’s as interesting as you’d think. So, who are these new criminals getting a second chance?

First up, there’s Ratcatcher, better known as Otis Flannegan, who is a long time villain of Batman. Flannegan is a former exterminator who turns to a life of crime using an army of rats and various poisons to execute his schemes. But according to the report, the role will be gender-swapped to be and a woman who will have a “surrogate” father/daughter relationship with Deadshot.

Next is King Shark, aka Nanaue. An on-again/off-again member of the team in the comics and cartoons, the hulking man-shark has either been the offspring of a shark god or a freak mutation. Any fans of CW’s “The Flash” might be a little more familiar with this villain, who has appeared as a recurring villain on the show for the last few seasons.

Then there’s Polka-Dot Man, or Mister Polka Dot, and is generally regarded as one of the cheesier Batman villains out there. His ability allows him to manifest different colored polka dots on his body that provide different weapons and abilities to use.

Finally, there is the agent of peace known as Peacemaker. Also known as Christopher Smith, this is a character that lives by an extremist code of pacifism that drives him to kill for peace. It is speculated in the article that this is the role Gunn has in mind for Dave Bautista, who has been critical of Disney for how it handled firing the director for old tweets.

It is worth noting that the report doesn’t give any update about Viola Davis, Margot Robbie, or Joel Kinnaman returning for the sequel.

“The Suicide Squad” is currently slated for an Aug. 6, 2021 release date.
