SHAKA HISLOP has laid in to Arsenal’s transfer and contract policy.
The Gunners are poised to lose Aaron Ramsey on a free transfer this summer with the Welshman looking increasingly certain to join Juventus.
His departure follows Mesut Ozil’s mammoth £300,000-a-week contract extension last season, however the playmaker is struggling to get into Unai Emery’s first-choice 11 this term.
Following that deal for Ozil, other Arsenal stars are demanding more money to stay and that looks to be a big factor behind Ramsey’s impending exit.
And Hislop thinks Ozil’s deal and Ramsey’s exit sums up the debacle at The Emirates at the moment.
Hislop said on the ESPN FC podcast: “It shows how ridiculous the Ozil singing is.
“I think there’s a number of issues to Ozil that you see in play all at the same time.
“Players who are there who are not playing well are now going to knock on the manager’s door and say, ‘Well Ozil is making £300,000-a-week, I’m contributing more than he is, I need to be up there or thereabouts.’
“Also, as Emery is suggesting now, they’re hamstrung as to exactly how much money they can spend, whether they can buy players, what wages they can put those players on and this Ozil thing has turned into more and more of a nightmare.
“You sympathise with Aaron Ramey in that he’s not feeling the Arsenal are not giving him his full value but at the same time you go, you get it at a club like Juventus, where you know you’re going to be winning honours and challenging at the very top of European football.
“Juventus over recent years have done better business in the transfer market than anyone body else in European football, certainly in terms of value for money and getting the best out of those players.
“I think this is a win-win for both player and club.”
