Queen Elizabeth II needs to be the first person to know that Meghan Markle has given birth to her first child due to a poignant reason.
Alahna Kindred, a journalist for Express, said that Markle cannot tell her mom Doria Ragland first that her baby has been born until after she and Prince Harry have informed Her Majesty. By the looks of it, Markle’s dad, Thomas Markle Sr., will only get the news from the papers since he is not on speaking terms with his daughter.
After Markle gives birth, her baby’s gender will be revealed to the public. Town crier Tony Appleton will be the one to announce it to the public. This tradition has stemmed from the medieval times and a notice will be erected on a billboard outside Buckingham Palace.
Another odd tradition that stems from another custom has to do with who is allowed to be with the pregnant woman inside the delivery room. In the past, fathers were not allowed to be present while their wives give birth. Years ago, when Her Majesty gave birth to Prince Charles, her husband, Prince Philip, was swimming and playing squash elsewhere.
After Prince Charles’ birth, this rule was relaxed by Her Majesty herself. Since then, men were allowed to witness the birth of their babies inside the delivery room.
In related news, there are some speculations suggesting that Markle could break a royal tradition by not giving birth at St. Mary’s Hospital’s Lindo Wing in the spring of 2019. The Duchess of Sussex reportedly supports home birth.
“She is a huge advocate for home births, but British royals are expected to give birth at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London. Meghan doesn’t want what she calls a ‘medicalized’ birth and instead wants to have a pool set up in a relaxing environment. Even Harry found this surprising, but Meg wants to ensure her birth is as natural as possible,” a source told Grazia magazine.
