AVRIL Lavigne has address a widespread conspiracy theory that she died and was replaced by a clone called Melissa.
The Sk8er Boi singer rose to fame in 2002 before topping the charts around the world.
However, despite being alive and well, some fans think she actually died at some point between 2003 and 2005 and cash hungry record execs then cloned her to keep the show on the road.
They claim Melissa is the reason Avril went from wearing trousers and rocking a tom boy look to wearing dresses on red carpets.
Fans even think Avril’s song hold clues to the dark truth.
In 2004 song Slipped Away, the superstar – or rather the new cloned Avril – sings: “The day you slipped away was the day I found it won’t be the same.”
During a promo tour for her new single Head Above Water Australian radio hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O asked Avril about the speculation.
Speaking on KIISS, she replied: “Some people think that I’m not the real me, which is so weird.
“Why would they even think that?”
Last November she was forced to confirm she was not dead during a Facebook live session after the rumour spread on social media.
Avril said: “No, I’m not dead. I’m here.
“I think it’s really silly that anyone would ever believe that… but yeah, it’s this huge rumour.”
She later claimed the source of the rumour was simply because “people are just bored and need something to talk about”.
