SONY’s upcoming mini console is more than just a machine to fuel your retro desires – it’s also a pretty good value bit of kit in its own right…
Sony recently announced the PlayStation Classic, a mini PSOne console capable of playing 20 old school games from back in the 90s.
The initial games that were announced for the console included Final Fantasy 7, Ridge Racer Type 4, Wild Arms, Jumping Flash and Tekken 3 – and then this week, many more games were announced for the system, with Sony revealed what all 20 titles will be.
With some people complaining that ‘obvious’ choices for the Mini are absent (Tomb Raider, Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot and Castlevania are all missing…), it’s still worth noting that if you wanted to grab a legacy system and play all these games back on the PSOne, you still be massively out of pocket.
Gaming site Twinfinite has done some research and noted that, to buy all 20 games on PSOne disc, you’d be set back a massive $257.68 (that’s about £200!)
“The breakdown lists the current value of each game on the second-hand market. The prices are based on the averages of “loose” authentic CDs, which are the cheapest official versions found online,” it explains before listing all 20 games and how much you’re likely to pay for them in 2018.
The site also notes a PSOne will usually set you back around $60 (£50) for a decent unit.
You can see the full breakdown of prices here.
So – even if you’re upset your favourite games didn’t make it onto the PS Mini – don’t fret. This is a good quality package, with decent quality games included.
