MORRISONS has extended its 10 per cent discount for NHS staff until the end of September to say thanks for their hard work.

The supermarket has now also made it available for online orders, helping workers who prefer shopping online.

The discount, which was first rolled out on April 16, was initially planned to be available until at least July 12.

But the supermarket has already extended it to September 30 in order to support the 1.5million NHS staff during the coronavirus crisis.

The discount will then be reviewed again, Morrisons said.

To get the discount, NHS staff will need to show their work ID when they get to the checkout in any Morrisons store.

The saving will then be applied to their grocery bill.

If you prefer shopping online, you should sign up to Morrisons NHS Club online to receive the discount.

Apart from the 10 per cent off, NHS staff will also receive exclusive offers and earn more points through the loyalty club.

It comes on top of previously announced measures for healthcare staff by Morrisons, including dedicated NHS shopping times.

These run from 6am to 7am, Monday to Saturday, and 9am to 9.30am on Sundays.

NHS staff need to show ID to get into stores.

None of the major supermarket rivals currently offer similar discounts for healthcare staff, although B&M extended its 10 per cent staff discount to NHS workers in April.

David Potts, Morrisons chief executive said: “We want to thank everybody in the National Health Service for playing their part in the ongoing battle against the coronavirus.

“We hope this measure combined with our dedicated hours for NHS staff will make life a little easier at this very challenging time for them.”

Morrisons is also selling NHS food boxes to help healthcare workers get hold of essential products after busy shifts.

The boxes cost £30 and include products such as baked beans, soup, pasta sauce, milk, dairy products such as butter and cheese, bread, rice and pasta, and fruit and vegetables.

Plus, it recently unveiled a new partnership with Deliveroo where customers can get items delivered in 30 minutes.
