The Porsche 911, of course, is my midlife crisis car of choice – the supercar for the thinking person.

Purchasing a Porsche will make you a better driver.

It’s true, and that’s another reason I’ll use if I ever have the opportunity to buy one.

I’m turning 50 this month, so I did what every man in the throes of a midlife crisis should do: I got behind the wheel of one of those sports cars that people have fantasized about for decades.

So, if money were no object, which supercar would I buy as I began my rapid return to childhood? I thought about it for a while, but kept coming back to the same, what I considered rational, choice.

I could have gone for a screamin’ Italian speedster, but my brain’s few remaining logical cells told me there was once only one option.

One that, at the very least, I could pretend was the sensible choice for a man in his fifties in front of my family.

One with four seats (sort of) is dependable and understated.

Of course, it’s the Porsche 911.

The supercar of the enlightened.

But, after driving almost exclusively electric cars this year, I felt a little guilty that, if I could afford it, what I really wanted was a Porsche Turbo S – with its awesome, but environmentally dubious, gas-guzzling engine with 650 horses.

I quickly got over my guilt because I knew I was about to give some good advice to consumers.

I mean, a lot of people – both men and women – are going through their own mid-life crisis.

They have some extra cash and are eager to learn more about this iconic vehicle before adding it to their wish list.

The solution is straightforward.

It’s incredible, and I’ve re-entered the lottery in the hopes of one day being able to purchase one for myself.

This isn’t a cheap property, starting at £155,970.

With the model actually tested costing just under £170,000, I’ll need a large lottery win to ensure I can build a garage for it, as well as pay for insurance and gasoline.

I already know the after testing the world-beating all-electric Porsche Taycan Turbo S.
