According to reports, Eternals filmmaker Chloe Zhao will not be directing Kevin Feige’s Star Wars film.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Chloé Zhao, the director of Eternals, had been tapped to direct Kevin Feige’s Star Wars film, but a new report suggests that this is not the case.

Insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter that Zhao is not directing Feige’s Star Wars film or any other Star Wars film, despite reports from One Take News and Cinelinx last week.

Fans have been speculating for a while about Zhao directing a Star Wars film.

Zhao has previously expressed interest in the franchise, and she recently stated that she would be willing to participate in any project Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige enlisted her for.

Regarding her interest in such a project, Zhao told The Playlist, “I would, I’ll do anything Kevin asked me to do.”

“Hmmmm,” Zhao joked during a conversation with Al Horner earlier this year about her interest in Star Wars.

I have to be very cautious about what I say here.

Yes, indeed.

Let’s just say it’s a world I hold in such high regard because it played such a significant role in my life.”

If the THR report is correct, Zhao will not be involved in a Star Wars project, which effectively puts what we know – or think we know – about Kevin Feige’s Star Wars film back to zero.

Feige has largely avoided questions about Star Wars at every turn, even admitting at the Black Widow red carpet premiere that he was “hesitant” to discuss the franchise, though he did express his admiration for it at the time.

He said at the time, “I’m so hesitant to talk about it today that I’m not going to talk about it.”

“However, I am a huge Star Wars fan.”

I’ve been to a Star Wars Celebration! I think I’ve been to two, maybe three.”

There have been some recent and unexpected shifts in the Star Wars film slate as a whole.

Patty Jenkins, the director of Wonder Woman, was announced as the director of Star Wars: Rogue Squadron in December of last year, with a December 2023 release date.

Jenkins’ schedule has now been reported to prevent production on the film from starting until 2022, putting the 2023 release date in jeopardy.
