Alan Partridge fans install 11ft golden statute of the DJ in his hometown of Norwich

TWO Alan Partridge fans have installed an 11ft golden statute of the DJ in his hometown.

Gavin Fulcher, 37, and Nic Dutton, 59 spent more than 1,000 hours of their own time over three years creating the buste – now in show in the middle of Norwich.

The pair who are sculptors for the film industry spent £6,000 on materials including a stone plinth emblazoned with Partridge’s catchphrase ‘Aha’.

They were given special permission yesterday to unveil it outside the Forum centre in Partridge’s home city in Norfolk.

It will remain in place until Sunday when Gavin plans to store it in his father’s garage.

Gavin said: “We are both from Norwich and self employed in the film industry.

“We are big fans of Partridge and wanted to give him the statue he deserves.

“He is someone who is clearly synonymous with Norwich.

“Clearly nobody is going to commission a statue of him, so we decided to do it ourselves.”

The cold cast brass statue is made of metal filings mixed with resin and buffed with wire wool to give it a metallic effect.

Gavin added: “I think Steve Coogan was aware of it.

“We spoke to his production company when we started and I think they thought we were a bit crazy.”

Partridge shot to fame in the 1990s, with TV shows including The Day Today and Knowing Me, Knowing You.
