As he prepares for trial, Jussie Smollett makes his first red carpet appearance in two years.

Jussie Smollett made his first appearance on the red carpet since reporting that he was the victim of a hate crime in 2019, just days before his trial for allegedly lying to police began.

Despite an ongoing scandal that has derailed his acting career, Jussie Smollett is back in the spotlight.

On November 1st,

The 39-year-old actor attended the New York City premiere of his film B-BoyBlues, his directorial debut, on January 19, marking his first red carpet appearance since reporting to authorities that he was the victim of a racist, homophobic hate crime in Chicago in January 2019. He was later indicted for making false police reports and will stand trial later this month.

Smollett was then charged with 16 counts of disorderly conduct after allegedly lying to authorities about being the victim of a hate crime.

The actor has entered a not guilty plea.

All charges against him were dropped in March 2019 by local prosecutors.

Meanwhile, Smollett continued to face backlash on social media, was mocked by Chris Rock at the NAACP Image Awards, and was fired from Empire, which ended its six-season run in 2020. He hasn’t appeared in a film in three years.

Smollett was charged with six counts of disorderly conduct in a felony indictment in February 2020, following an investigation by a special prosecutor, stemming from making four separate false reports to Chicago police related to being the victim of a hate crime in the alleged 2019 incident.

He pleaded not guilty yet again.

On November 1, jury selection for his trial will begin in Chicago.

29th.

“They’re not going to let this go,” Smollett told reporter Marc Lamont Hill…
