Coronation Street’s Rula Lenska takes swipe at younger cast for ‘failing to take advice’ from older soap stars

CORONATION Street’s Rula Lenska took a swipe at her younger co-stars for “failing to take advice” from their elders on set.

Rula, 72, hit out at a few of “the young ones” she worked with on the ITV soap after playing hairdresser Claudia Colby on and off since 2009.

Rula quit her Cobbles character, who most recently struck up a romance with Ken Barlow, back in April.

And free to speak her mind, she dished on her former co-stars: “They have a completely different attitude. They are not terribly good at taking advice or helpful suggestions.

“One just swallows it and that’s how time has progressed. That’s how things have changed.”

Rula, who is also a Polish countess, began her acting career in 70s TV show Rock Follies and has a string of movie credits to her name.

She has appeared on TV shows such as Special Branch, Minder, Boon, The Detectives, Footballers’ Wives, To the Manor Born, One Foot in the Grave, Casualty, Space: 1999, Return of the Saint and Robin Of Sherwood.

She’s also starred in several stage productions, including The Vagina Monologues and 84 Charing Cross Road.

“Without meaning to sound up one’s own rear end, I remember as a young actor, being completely grateful for any sort of comment made to me by an older, more experienced actor,” she added to Digital Spy.

“Whether it was, ‘Yes, that was great’ or ‘Try this’ or ‘Do a bit more of this, or do a bit less of this’, whatever. Anybody that took any notice of me I just eat up with delight.

The actress first joined the ITV soap in May 2011, but quit the role in order to join the Calendar Girls tour in August 2011.

She reprised her role as Audrey Robert’s friend in 2018, when glamorous Claudia quickly moved in with Ken.

She bought Audrey’s Salon before moving in with Ken and convincing him to sell up on the cobbles and move to luxury retirement home Stillwaters.

However, Ken’s discomfort at living away from the cobbles soon came to a head and he and Claudia called it a day – marking her exit from the soap.

A source told The Sun Online at the time: “The door is definitely open for Rula to return and Claudia still has connections on the street.

“But for now Claudia’s life is on the veranda of Stillwaters and Ken belongs in his backstreet boozer.”
