ELLIE Goulding has revealed that she recorded her hit songs drunk after struggling with creepy music producers who tried to sleep with her.
The 33-year-old star opened up about her career beginnings ahead of the release of her fourth album, which comes out next week.
While the singer confessed that booze “fuelled” her recording sessions, it has never been a dangerous or out-of-control habit.
Speaking to The Guardian, Ellie explained: “I don’t know many musicians who aren’t fuelled by something in the studio.
“Maybe it’s an inhibition thing. It’s just impossible to write music if you’re critiquing what you’re doing as you’re writing.
“I’ve definitely written songs while I’ve been drunk that have resonated with people.
“My cover of Your Song I probably did [while drunk], and Anything Can Happen.”
Ellie, who married art dealer Caspar Jopling last year, also reflected on not associating herself with the #MeToo movement when it first came to prominence in 2017.
MeToo saw several female celebrities come forward with their personal experiences of sexual harassment and abuse in the industry at the hands of powerful men.
Speaking about her decision not to align herself with the movement earlier, Ellie explained: “I was a bit too scared, I thought maybe I would be judged.
“The first producer I met wanted to sleep with me and I was like, why? I didn’t see myself as an object of desire.”
The blonde beauty was just 19 years old when she tried to make it in the industry, and she continued: “I wouldn’t be able to get home because I couldn’t afford it, and they would say: ‘You can stay.’
“But there would always be the suggestion of something. I’d have to laugh it off – I constantly had to laugh things off.
“Other sessions would have alcohol and it would get to a point where the man would say something suggestive and I’d feel uncomfortable.
“My whole career started off with instantly being made to feel like a sexual object, and being made to feel vulnerable in those sessions. And there are so many female singers that will hear me saying that and say: ‘Yeah, I can relate.’”
Ellie recalled choosing relationships with other stars who could “relate” to her position in the limelight, dating One Direction’s Niall Horan, McFly’s Dougie Poynter, and producer Skrillex before tying the knot.
She and Caspar got engaged in 2018, and their August 2019 wedding was a stunning do at Castle Howard, with 300 guests in attendance – including celebrities and members of the royal family.
Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice, and their mother Sarah Ferguson attended the nuptials, as well as Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, James Blunt, and Joe Wicks.
