Expert Says Queen Elizabeth Has Entered a “New Phase” of Her Reign
As concerns about Queen Elizabeth’s health continue to grow, she is “entering a new phase” of her reign.
The British monarch, who will mark her 70th year on the throne in 2022 with her Platinum Jubilee, has been forced to cancel a number of royal engagements in the last month due to her health, which resulted in an overnight hospitalization.
She has been on doctor’s orders to rest since then, resulting in a more limited schedule of events that is unlikely to change anytime soon.
The Queen’s most recent cause for concern occurred on Sunday, when she was unable to attend the Cenotaph’s Remembrance Sunday Service due to a sprained back.
Her son, Prince Charles, took her place and laid a wreath at the Cenotaph memorial in her honor.
Other members of the royal family are expected to step in to fill the Queen’s shoes at in-person engagements, according to royal author Penny Junor.
While royal watchers are “so used to seeing her out and about and looking years younger than she is,” Junor told the Mirror that “there comes a time in everyone’s life when they have to admit that they are getting older and can’t do the things that they perhaps want to do.” Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, agreed, saying that “in terms of official engagements before the end of the year, I don’t think we will see her out and about doing anything.”
“There are echoes of her mother’s teenage years, when things became increasingly difficult.”
“But the Queen Mother persevered, and there’s no reason to believe the Queen won’t as well,” Little said.
“Clearly, there are issues with mobility.
Getting from Windsor with a sprained back and having to stand for 15 to 20 minutes at the Cenotaph is not a pleasant experience for someone who is 95.”
This isn’t to say that Her Majesty will disappear from the public eye completely.
Instead, Junor stated that fans can expect to see “more of her on video and probably less of her in the flesh,” as she did in October when she welcomed the new ambassadors to the United Kingdom from South Korea and Switzerland via virtual audience.
She’s got me…
