Fans Get a Look at Older Main Characters in the ‘South Park’ Paramount(plus) Trailer

South Park is getting a new Post Covid special from Paramount(plus), and a new trailer for it has revealed older versions of the show’s main characters.

In the video, an adult Stan receives a call from Kyle, who reminds him that when they were younger, they “always be there for each other when things got bad,” to which Stan responds, “What do you mean? What’s happened?”

Stan is later seen talking with his father, Randy, who is now an elderly gray-haired man in a motorized chair.

Stan yells, “No one wants another one of your marijuana specials, dad!”

“It’s not a special,” Randy says.

This is a joke about Randy announcing a “pandemic special” on marijuana that he grew and sold through his Tegridy Farms company in the South Park Pandemic Special from 2020.

“What happened to the children who lived through the Pandemic?” asks Paramount(plus) in a brief synopsis of the new special. “Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny survived, but will never be the same Post Covid.”

“On Paramount(plus) exclusively at 25.”

Earlier this month, Paramount(plus) announced that it had placed orders for a number of South Park films that would be available exclusively on the streaming service.

The news came after Comedy Central announced that the long-running animated series had been renewed for a 30th season.

The companies revealed their future plans for South Park, which will air on Comedy Central until at least 2027, in a press release.

In addition, 14 original made-for-streaming South Park movies, including the Post Covid special, will be available on Paramount(plus).

Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the show’s co-creators, released a joint statement expressing their excitement for the new plans for the show.

“Comedy Central has been our home for the past 25 years, and we’re thrilled that they’ve committed to us for the next 75,” they said.

“When we approached ViacomCBS with a new way to produce the show during the pandemic, Chris (McCarthy), Nina (Diaz), Keyes (Hill-Edgar), and Tanya (Giles) were immediately supportive and enabled us to try something new, which turned out to be extremely well received.”

We can’t wait to get back to making classic South Park episodes, but we can also experiment with new formats now.

It’s wonderful to have partners who are always willing to take a chance with us.”
