The government department’s official website says the decision was made after assessing the coronavirus risks in the country.
The advice against travel only applies to mainland Spain, with holiday hotpots such as Majorca and Ibiza left off the ‘no go’ list – though travellers returning from the islands WILL still have to quarantine.
The bombshell news will affect dozens of celebrities and reality stars who are currently in the country enjoying a sunshine break.
This includes Mark Wright and wife Michelle Keegan, who have been sharing pictures and videos from their holiday which has so far taken in Marbella, Mallorca and Ibiza.
TV presenter Maya Jama has also been sharing sexy snaps from her trip to Ibiza, including one in a clinging neon yellow dress on a yacht.
Former Love Island star Alexandra Cane is also currently enjoying a solo break to the White Isle, sharing snaps from her exploration of Ibiza old town as well as plenty bikini shots.
Not to be outdone, Geordie Shore alums Sophie Kasaei and Charlotte Crosby have also posted snaps from the party island, enjoying a boat ride in colourful swimsuits.
Ibiza has also been the destination of choice for former WAG Danielle Lloyd and her family, former Love Islanders Gabby Allen and Arabelle Chi and model Demi Rose.
Meanwhile Mummy Diaries star Sam Faiers and her family have shared pictures from their holiday to Marbella on Instagram.
And James Argent has been spending the last couple of weeks in the resort on the Spanish mainland performing at his friend Elliott Wright’s bar and restaurant.
Former Love Islander Georgia Harrison is also in Marbs and will have to quarantine for 14 days once she returns home just like her fellow celebs.
The Foreign Office website says: “From 26 July, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) advises against all non-essential travel to mainland Spain based on the current assessment of Covid-19 risks.
“Only the Canary Islands (Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and La Graciosa) and Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera) are exempt from the FCO advice against all non-essential international travel.
“This advice is based on evidence of increases in cases of Covid-19 in several regions, but particularly in Aragon, Navarra and Catalonia (which include the cities of Zaragoza, Pamplona and Barcelona).
“The FCO is not advising those already travelling in Spain to leave at this time.”
