IN a “defund the police” plea, Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff admitted to alleged past illegal behavior that resulted in zero criminal record.
She said she’s stolen, gotten into fights, done drugs and more yet the “broken system” has kept her alive but “murdered Rayshard Brooks.”
Rayshard was killed on Friday at 27 years old after two police officers found him sleeping in his parked car in an Atlanta drive-thru lane.
In a surveillance video, Rayshard appeared to be running away from the cops while pointing a stun gun behind him before one of the officers shot him.
Grey’s Anatomy boss Krista wanted to give followers insight into what happened to her on multiple occasions, as white woman, when she was allegedly involved in illegal activity and had to interact with police.
She tweeted on Monday: “When I was 15, I was chased through a mall by police who were yelling ‘Stop thief!’
“I had thousands of dollars of stolen merchandise on me. I was caught, booked, sentenced to 6 months of probation, required to see a parole officer weekly.
“I was never even handcuffed.”
Krista added: “When I was 18, I was pulled over for drunk driving.
“When the Police Officer asked me to blow into the breathalyzer, I pretended to have asthma and insisted I couldn’t blow hard enough to get a reading.”
She added: “The officer laughed then asked my friends to blow and when one of them came up sober enough to drive, he let me move to the passenger seat of my car and go home with just a verbal warning.”
The 48-year-old TV writer revealed she also once, as a teen, “attacked” a girl in the middle of a party but police were never called, before “punching a guy in the face” a year later right in front a cop.
On what happened next, she shared: “The guy went to the ground and came up bloody and screaming that he wanted me arrested, that he was pressing charges.
“The cop pulled me aside and said, ‘You don’t punch people in front of cops,’ then laughed and said that if I ever joined the police force he’d like to have me as a partner.
“I was sent into my apartment and told to stay there.”
Aside from alleged theft and assaults, Krista said she was also chased by officers on multiple occasions for taking illegal drugs and drinking underage but she still has “no criminal record.”
She asked her white followers to think about any criminal activity they’ve taken part in and if they think they deserved to die for any of it,
She asked if they would say she deserved to die had she been “shot in the back by the police after the shoplifting incident,” in which she supposedly “willfully and soberly” ran from the officers.
The Station 19 executive producer said: “Defunding the police is not about ‘living in a lawless society.’
“It’s about the fact that in this country, we’re not supposed to get shot by police for getting drunk.”
Concluding her Twitter thread, she wrote: “The system that lets me live and murders Rayshard Brooks is a broken system that must change.
“Stop defending it. Demand the change.”
The Originals alum Steven Krueger shared her “excellent” thread, while Lucifer star Lesley-Ann Brandt told Krista “Thank you” for writing it.
Good Trouble creator Peter Paige retweeted her posts while adding his own similar story.
He shared: “I too was arrested for shoplifting when I was 15. I had to talk to a juvenile court counselor ONE TIME- no court, no probation, no community service, no juvie.
“That’s the end of that story – but not my life. #DefundThePolice”
