Martin Scorsese’s New Biopic to Star Jonah Hill as Legendary Late Rocker

In the last decade, Jonah Hill has played a number of high-profile roles, and now the accomplished actor is set to play a legendary late rocker in a new Martin Scorsese biopic.

Hill will play Jerry Garcia, the late frontman of the Grateful Dead, in a film directed by Scorsese for Apple, according to Deadline.

The film will reportedly focus on the band’s rise to fame, with executive producers including Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann.

The Grateful Dead was founded in 1965 in Palo Alto, California.

The band quickly became a household name with a dedicated fanbase known as Deadheads, blending elements of all different kinds of music genres, such as blues, rock, jazz, and country, to name a few.

Garcia, who was 53 years old at the time, died in 1995.

He died of a heart attack while undergoing treatment for drug addiction.

The Grateful Dead continue to tour the world as Dead andamp; Company, carrying on the legacy that Garcia and the remaining members established nearly five decades ago.

Notably, Scorsese has previously worked with the band, serving as an executive producer on Long Strange Trip, a 2017 documentary about the Grateful Dead, as well as Hill, with whom he previously collaborated on The Wolf of Wall Street with Leonardo DiCaprio in 2013.

Hill was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards, while the other two received nominations for the film.

DiCaprio was nominated for Best Actor, while Scorses was nominated for Best Director.

Hill told Howard Stern in a previous interview that Scorsese was the best director he’d ever worked with, and that he learned a lot from him.

“When I hear you talk about Ivan Reitman, I realize how much you soaked up from movies like a sponge,” Hill told Stern at the time.

“Imagine me for that, whether it’s Judd [Apatow] or Seth [Rogen] and Evan [Goldberg], whether it’s Bennett Miller, Spike Jonze, Martin Scorsese, Coen Brothers, Quentin Tarantino, Gus Van Sant or Bennett Miller, Spike Jonze, Martin Scorsese, Coen Brothers, Quentin Tarantino, Gus Van Sant.”

Hill also stated in a separate interview that he was happy to take a pay cut to film Wolf…
