Ina Garten’s Thanksgiving Menu: 5 Make-Ahead Dinner and Dessert Ideas
Ina Garten has created the ultimate Thanksgiving menu, which ensures delicious food while alleviating any holiday stress associated with cooking a large meal.
The star of the Barefoot Contessa discovered that having make-ahead menu options is the key to a perfect Thanksgiving meal.
Garten’s Thanksgiving menu for the big feast was featured on Food Network, and the Barefoot Contessa star gave an insightful quote.
She discovered that by changing her mindset, she didn’t have to give up any flavor in her recipes.
“I used to think that food tasted better when it was freshly prepared,” she explained.
“I had to coerce myself into changing my ways.”
Garten told Food Network that planning the menu ahead of time allowed her to spend more time with her guests.
“As people began to arrive, I found myself with nothing to do.
She explained, “It was so strange!”
Garten’s Thanksgiving menu includes five items that can be prepared ahead of time.
“No one wants to stand around hoping their gravy won’t be lumpy at the moment the turkey comes out of the oven,” Garten said of her easy roast turkey recipe, which can be made a week ahead of time and refrigerated (or frozen for up to 3 months).
“Not with this recipe!”
A study published in November found that
Garten shared her delicious turkey and gravy recipe on Instagram on March 15.
“After years of stressing over the turkey, I discovered that roasting it ahead of time, arranging it on an oven-proof platter over a bed of gravy, and then putting it in the oven before dinner is SO much easier than trying to carve a hot turkey at the table!” she wrote in the caption.
“It’s also the best turkey I’ve ever cooked,” says the chef.
On the Food Network website, you can find the full recipe.
The Barefoot Contessa’s baked farro and butternut squash is a beautiful side dish full of autumn flavors.
“This is a Maria Sinskey recipe from California,” Garten said.
“The flavors and textures are out of this world.”
The dish, which includes onion, thyme, farro, chicken stock, bacon, and parmesan cheese, can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to two days.
After that, it’s just a matter of baking the side dish right before serving.
The complete recipe can be found on the Food Network website.
